Egypt court orders retrial for defendants sentenced in 2014 Aswan tribal feud

Ahram Online , Thursday 4 May 2017

Egypt's Court of Cassation has ordered a retrial for 86 people who received in 2016 sentences of life in prison or the death penalty for involvement in a feud between two Aswan clans that resulted in the deaths of at least 28 people.

The deadly events took place in April 2014 between the Arab Bani Helal and the Nubian Daboudiya clans, reportedly over the harassment of a girl and insulting graffiti.

State authorities mediated between the two clans and a cessation of hostilities was agreed upon.
