Egypt's Army Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy and special representative of the UN secretary-general in Libya Martin Kobler discussed recent efforts to reach a national consensus between rival factions in war-torn Libya, Egypt's army said in a statement on Thursday

The meeting, which was held in Cairo, reviewed the results of recent meetings facilitated by a national dialogue committee created by Egypt to bridge differences between various rival factions in Libya.

Kobler urged continuous regional and international efforts to resolve the six-year-old crisis, while praising Egypt's efforts in this regard, the statement said.

Kobler and Hegazy have met in Cairo several times this year to discuss the Libya issue.

Two rival governments are competing for power in Libya – the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), based in Tripoli, and the House of Representatives in the eastern city of Tobruk.
