Egyptian parliamentarian Herakl Mohamed Wafky died Wednesday after several months of struggle with illness. He was 51, state news agency MENA reported.
Wafky was the MP for Gerga district for Upper Egypt’s Sohag governorate. He died in Cairo while receiving treatment.
Wafky was the parliamentary representative for his district for three terms; during 2000 where he ran independently, in 2005 where he ran in the lists of the now defunct National Democratic Party; and in 2016 where he ran on the lists of Future of a Nation political party.
The burial and funeral of Wafky is expected to be in his hometown of Beit Alam in Sohag.
Egypt’s High Election Committee is expected to announce a byelection in Gerga to fill the seat of Wafky.
