Five prisoners escaped from a police station in Upper Egypt’s Qena governorate on Thursday, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.
The suspects, who were arrested for drug trafficking and kidnapping for ransom, escaped by breaking the window of the cell where they were being held, a security source told Al-Ahram Arabic.
Qena's security directorate has ordered a security alert until the prisoners are apprehended.
In July, five prisoners escaped a police station in Upper Egypt’s Beni Suef and four prisoners escaped a police station in the Delta governorate of Daqahliya. The fugitives in both instances are still at large.
