The American University in Cairo (AUC) has backtracked on its decision to ban the niqab (face veil) on campus after meeting with a group of female students who wear the garment, the university announced in an email to students and faculty on Monday.
According to the email, a number of AUC students and faculty members expressed concerns over the decision to ban the niqab.
The administration said further talks will be held regarding the decision.
The ban was issued last week over security concerns.
In 2014, Cairo University banned faculty members from wearing the niqab, saying it would hinder communication between professors and students.
