Egyptian naval forces deployed at Mediterranean's Zohr gas field to combat potential threats

Egypt's Armed Forces said in a statement on Tuesday that its navy is implementing security measures at the country’s Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean's to combat any potential threats.

The Armed Forces said that in concurrence with Operation Sinai 2018, naval forces are conducting a series of missions to secure vital and strategic sites in the country’s territorial waters to protect its national and economic interests and investments.

The statement said that the navy is securing great distances off the coast using modern naval technology with advanced combat capabilities, including submarines, frigates and missile boats, as well as special naval units with high mobility and manoeuvrability.

Operation Sinai 2018, which was launched on 9 February, is a “comprehensive” anti-terrorism campaign primarily focused in northern and central Sinai, and also includes operations in the Delta, the Nile Valley and the Western Desert.
