Egypt's government referred its new bill to regulating transportation methods using IT to the House of Representatives earlier this week, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported on Wednesday.
The bill, which will regulate the status of the ride hailing apps like Uber and Careem in Egypt, was revised legally and constitutionally by the State Council prior to its referral to parliament.
The House of Representatives is going to discuss it in order to issue it accordingly.
The government's move came a day after an administrative court issued an order banning the services from operating in the country following a lawsuit filed by a group of taxi drivers.
Both Uber and Careem announced that they would appeal the court order.
Khaled El-Gamal, a lawyer representing the taxi drivers who filed the lawsuit, told Ahram Online on Wednesday that it may take around a month to put the administrative court’s decision into effect.
The decision can still be appealed.
