Former National Democratic Party (NDP) member Hani Abou-Reida is likely to replace Hassan Saqr as the new head of the National Sports Council, Ahram Online has learnt.

Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri, who formed a new government earlier this month without naming the new head of sports, is expected to announce the appointment of Abou-Reida during the next few hours.

Abou-Reida, who is also an executive committee member of FIFA (the football’s world governing body), was one of the NDP’s candidates in the 2010 rigged parliamentary elections.

He is the current vice-chairman of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and was expected to run when the mandate of incumbent chairman Samir Zaher ends.
