Facebook page calls on residents of the Cairo neighbourhood synonymous with pro-military junta demonstrations to take part in a march Monday to 'wipe away their shame'

A Facebook page has called on the residents of the Abbassya district in Cairo to take part in a peaceful march on Monday in order to stress they “did not betray the revolution.”

In recent months, Abbassya Square has been the venue of many pro-military council protests.

Demonstrations staged there have denounced protesters in Tahrir Square, the epicentre of the revolution, describing them as "thugs." These protests have been held to counter those in Tahrir calling on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to step down from power immediately.

“We will all go down with our neighbours, friends and brothers,” read a statement issued by the "All Abassya on Facebook" page. “Try to bring as many placards as possible to put across our voice easily to the media.

“Our beloved neighbour, we will wipe away the shame and Abbassya will get back in the side of the revolutionaries.”
