Egypt's Minister of Health inaugurates groundbreaking public women's cancer center in Cairo

Egypt's Minister of Health Ahmed Emad El-Din inaugurated on Monday the Women's Cancer Center at Nasr City Hospital for Health Insurance, the first such public center to be established under the auspices of the National Health Insurance General Authority.   

At a cost of EGP 91 million, the center aims to provide a variety of health services for patients, including chemotherapy and surgeries for breast and uterine tumors.

The Baheya Foundation, an Egyptian NGO dedicated to cancer treatment, opened in 2015 as the country's first private hospital specialising in women's cancer.

Baheya, located in Giza, provides free services for its patients and is funded by public donations.One out of every 12 Egyptian women will suffer from breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the National Cancer Institute.

More public cancer centers are set to be opened soon in various governorates, according to the health ministry.
