Court revokes decision to ban veiled TV announcers

Ahram Online, Sunday 1 Jan 2012

The Alexandria Administrative Court has revoked a previous decision to ban the appearance of veiled anchorwomen on state TV.

The lawsuit was filed in 2008 by announcer Lamia El Sayed Hassan who works in Channel 5, the local Alexandria TV station.

However, the administrative court has ruled that the veil protects a woman’s dignity and does not interfere with her work duties and does not affect how she is viewed by the audience.
