Egypt’s health ministry said on Monday that two Egyptian pilgrims set for Islamic pilgrimage died in Mecca ahead of the annual duty in Saudi Arabia.
According to the health ministry’s commission head Mohamed Shawki, a 61 year old pilgrim from Ismailia died while performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Mecca on Monday dawn due to a cardiac arrest.
Shawki added that the Egyptian authorities were currently coordinating with Saudi counterparts to extract the Egyptian pilgrim’s death certificate.
Deaths from heat exhaustion, fatigue and other natural causes are a common occurrence among pilgrims on the hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Hajj will take place this year over five days from August 19 to 24, when Muslims worldwide will then get to celebrate Eid Al-Adha.
There is no official number of Egyptian pilgrims who travel annually for the five-day pilgrimage, which sees a few million Muslims from around the world travel to Mecca every year.
