The speaker of Egypt’s parliament, Ali Abdel-Aal, met with Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in Cairo on Tuesday, according to a statement from the parliamentary press office.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Yemen, according to the statement.

"During the meeting, the speaker also highlighted the historic relations between Egypt and Yemen and confirmed the fact that Egypt is fully committed to supporting the legitimate government in Yemen, led by President Hadi, and maintaining the national unity of the Yemeni state," read the statement.

"The speaker also stressed that the stability and security of Yemen is of maximum importance to Egypt's national security in particular and to the Arab region in general," according to the statement.

The speaker also expressed Egypt's support for the ongoing efforts aimed at finding a political solution to the Yemeni crisis.

"The speaker stressed that all political parties and warring factions in Yemen should reach an agreement in line with the Arab Gulf initiative, the recommendations of the national Yemeni dialogue, and the resolutions of the UN Security Council," said the statement.

Hadi reviewed the most recent political developments in Yemen and the Arab and international efforts aimed at supporting the legitimate government there.

"President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi told the speaker that he was keen to visit Egypt's parliament to express Yemen's appreciation for the Egyptian people and for Egypt's role in giving different forms of help to Yemen to restore stability and security after three years of civil war," read the statement.

Mohamed El-Shadadi, the speaker of the Yemeni parliament, also thanked Abdel-Aal for "his personal role in supporting the legitimate Yemeni parliament and government during the latest round of meetings of the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva."

The meeting was attended by the Egyptian parliament's secretary-general Ahmed Saad Eddin, and most representatives of political parties in parliament.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi had met with Hadi in Cairo on Monday.

El-Sisi said at a press conference that Egypt will not tolerate Yemen's civil war posing a threat to navigation in the Red Sea, or allowing non-Arab forces to gain a foothold in Yemen.
