Egypt's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid stated that EU-Arab Summit is set to be held in Egypt and will focus on Arab-European cooperation in general, as it won't be limited to discussing migration.

The decision to hold the summit in Egypt is based on the Arab League Council Resolution 147 and 148 and the Arab Summit held last March by the Dead Sea in Jordan.

His comment came in response to statements made by the EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Frederica Mogherini, and European Council President Donald Tusk on holding an EU-Arab Summit in Egypt on migration issues in 2019.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurzand EU Council President Donald Tuskbothvisited Cairo over the weekend for talks with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

Tusk and Kurz called for an EU-Arab League summit sometime in early 2019, following a joint visit to Cairo this week. Austria currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, a role that is rotated between countries every six months.

Austria urged EU partners on Thursday to enter talks with Egypt in order to discuss ways to manage migration from Africa to Europe.
