The resistance of the Palestinian people is a “legitimate right granted by the decree of Islamic Sharia as well as that of international charters," said Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb to Hamas former prime minister Ismail Haniya in a recent meeting.

During the gathering in Cairo on Tuesday afternoon between a delegation from Hamas and El-Tayeb, Haniya stated that the resistance is a “staple for the people of Palestine” and that there will be “no concessions provided [by the Palestinians] on their choice of resistance until the liberation of Palestinian soil.”

Haniya added that the Egyptian revolution had been supportive of the Palestinian issue “at various levels.”

EL-Tayeb announced during the meeting that Al-Azhar is in the process of organising a conference to discuss ways of counteracting the Judaisation of Jerusalem and reclaiming Islamic holy sites in the city.
