Egypt's Minister of Communication and Information Technology Amr Talaat said Thursday that Egypt is the second largest county in the world with an underwater communications network linking the continents of Africa, Asia and Europe, which makes it capable of playing a powerful role in the international field of communications.

Talaat made the comments at the American Chamber of Commerce meeting in Cairo today.

Over 100 senior executives from almost 50 leading American companies are part of a delegation that arrived in Egypt Monday for several meetings with Egyptian officials to "underscore the continued commitment and unwavering support of the American business community to Egypt’s long-term stability and economic development; as well as to explore prospective business opportunities," according to the AmCham.

The delegation, which met with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Monday, included senior representatives from the United States Trade Development Agency (USTDA), the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im), as well as multilateral financial institutions.

The minister also said today that Egypt excels in the call centre services industry, which employs qualified workers proficient in several languages.

Talaat also noted that the communications sector currently contributes up to 5 percent of the country's GDP, compared to 1.5 percent in previous years.
