French Ambassador to Egypt Stéphane Romatet told Ahram Online on Monday that France has proposed a partnership to assist Egypt in completing its plan for ensuring universal health coverage.
"There is the issue of universal health coverage which is a project of huge magnitude for Egypt, and we want to assist Egypt in completing this very big project for the benefit of the Egyptian population," said Romatet.
The French ambassador's comments came on the sidelines of an Egyptian-French forum held in Cairo on Monday and organised in partnership with Al-Ahram Hebdo to discuss the strategic partnership between both countries in the health sector.
"We have proposed a global view to the Egyptian government with health partnership and our goal is to use the coming presidential visit of President Macron Egypt this coming month to sign a partnership deal on this issue between our two governments; the health issue is a top priority for the Egyptian government and for the president," said Romatet.
The ambassador said France would be providing assistance on issues related to general health, obesity, cancer, pharmaceutical industries, emergency rooms, hospitals management and universal health coverage.
"The Egyptian government wants to work with France, which has one of the most developed health services in the world, so this is the aim of this forum, to partner with Egypt covering all the various aspects of what we can do together in the field of health," he said.
The French ambassador said that "we have companies ready to invest here in Egypt; pharmaceutical needs are on the rise and of course our companies are interested in investing in Egypt."
"We have here in Egypt a set of French companies which have been established for a long time, so we have decided to create a kind of a group of all these competent and expert companies; it is our responsibility to assemble these firms and work with them on the global health partnership in Egypt," he said.
The ambassador also told Ahram Online that there was a plan to establish a partnership to enhance training, especially of Egyptian health professionals.
