Egyptian naval forces have held joint military drills with their Spanish counterparts in the Mediterranean, according to a statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces on Wednesday.

A number of Egyptian naval units, as well as the Spanish RELAMPAGO warship, took part in the joint naval training.

The exercises are aimed to coordinate efforts between the forces of the two countries to "face challenges and threats in a way that supports efforts to achieve stability and maritime security in the region," the army added in the statement.
