Egypt presidential hopefuls to register in mid-April: SCAF

SCAF member uses visit to Gamal Abdel Nasser's mausoleum to reveal registration for presidential candidates will ‎open on 15 April

SCAF member Lieutenant General Mohsen El-Fangary has stated that registration for presidential candidates will open on 15 April 2012. The election is expected to take place in June.

El-Fangary also said that Egypt had a presidential political system and thus the president was assigned to form a cabinet, not the parliament. Changing the system would require a constitutional amendment, he added.

El-Fangary made the comments on Sunday during a visit to the mausoleum of Gamal Abdel Nasser to commemorate the former president’s birthday.

His comments were aired on the Sada El-Bald TV channel.
