Egyptian killed in Beirut building collapse

One Egyptian among 13 reported fatalities in Beirut building collapse; three other Egyptians unaccounted for

One Egyptian is missing following a building collapse in the Ashrafiyeh district of Beirut. The missing person is Hani Ibrahim Abd El-Younis, while Egyptians Tamer Abu El-Azm Hemeda, Badr Abu El-Azm Hemeda, Mesbah Mohamed Nour El-Din and Mohamed Kamel Abd El-Salam were among the survivors.

The Egyptian ambassador at the scene described the rescue efforts as “professional.”   The Lebanese president, several ministers and MPs were also in attendance, he added.

Rescue workers continue to search for people believed buried under the rubble. The building had 50 residents, 13 of whom are dead, 12 survived, and a further 25 remain missing. 

The five-story building collapsed on Sunday evening. The victims also included Lebanese and Sudanese nationals.
