Sisi tours Grand Egyptian Museum, Rod El-Farag development project

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi visited several national projects in the capital on Thursday, including the second phase of the Rod El-Farag axis road project, the under-construction Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), and the Giza Pyramids plateau development project, to follow up on progress, his spokesman said.

The second stage of the Rod El-Farag axis road project include the construction of bridges over the eastern Nile, the western Nile, the Shubra district, the Cairo Ring Road junction and El-Warraq Island.

It is one of the largest state infrastructure projects, with over 600km of road, extending from the Red Sea city of Zafarana to the Mediterranean city of Dabaa.

The president also inspected the Grand Egyptian Museum, where around 8,000 workers are on site each day.

The museum has a total area of about 500,000 square metres, El-Sisi’s spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement on Thursday, of which approximately 168,000 square metres are for the exhibition of 100,000 artefacts.

The museum also contains several sub-museums, libraries, arts and crafts sections, simulation halls and an exhibition hall.

The president also inspected the development work on the Giza Plateau, which aims to improve services for tourist and  visitors to the pyramids, and improve the sound and light systems for the sound and light show, and improve safety measures related to this equipment. 

El-Sisi assured workers at these national projects that the Egyptian people look up to them with gratitude and appreciation for their great efforts, urging them to accomplish their duty within the specified timelines.
