Egypt has condemned a bomb attack that targeted a Colombian police academy on Thursday and left at least 21 people dead.

A car broke through checkpoints onto the grounds of the General Santander School in the Colombian capital before it detonated, shattering the windows of apartments nearby, Reuters reported.

Cairo offered its deepest condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery, according to a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry on Saturday.

Egypt stressed that its government and people stand by Colombia in its efforts to combat terrorism.

The statement added that Cairo rejects all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism, reiterating its call for pooling international anti-terrorism efforts to eliminate this phenomenon wherever it exists.
