Egypt's defense minister probes with his Chinese counterpart regional, int'l challenges

Egypt's Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki meets Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe on Sunday, Cairo, Egypt.

Egypt's Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki discussed on Sunday with Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe, who is currently visiting Egypt with a delegation of Chinese military officials the latest regional and international developments and challenges, the Egyptian armed forces said.

According to the statement issued by the Egyptian armed forces, the Chinese minister had a red-carpet reception at the Defense Ministry's general secretariat premises as the national anthems of both countries were played.

The two ministers held an expanded meeting on the challenges witnessed at the regional and international arenas as well as their consequences on the security and stability of the Middle East region.

They also held a high-level session of talks that took up a number of issues of common interest besides increasing the prospects of cooperation at the military and security levels.

During the get-together attended by a number of top brass officials, Zaki highlighted the Egyptian-Chinese ties and the fruitful joint cooperation that contributes to maintaining security and stability efforts in the region.

For his part, Wei Fenghe expressed keenness on promoting bilateral cooperation during the coming period in various defense and security domains.

Egyptian army's chief of staff General Mohamed Farid attended the meetings along with a number of major Egyptian army commanders as well the ambassador of China to Cairo.
