Egypt's Minister of Health Hala Zayed said a total of 45 million citizens in 27 governorates underwent medical checkups as part of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's 100 Million Healthy Lives initiative to eradicate Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and detect chronic diseases.

Zayed pointed out that 14.37 million citizens were tested so far during the third phase of the initiative since its launch on 1 March, noting that the state aims at reaching all citizens who might have HCV and treating them for free.

The third phase of the initiative has witnessed a high turnout by the citizens who flocked to all medical check-up points with a rate exceeding 160% of the daily target, Zayed said.

Zayed lauded the efforts of all medical teams working in the initiative.

The spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said that Daqahlia governorate registered the highest turnout with a total of 3.101 million people who underwent the tests, followed by 3.40 million from Sharkyia, and 2.886 million from Giza.
