Security chief and head of police investigations to be detained after Port Said football disaster

Egypt's Prosecutor-General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud has ordered the detention of Port Said’s security chief and head of police investigations after Wednesday's deadly riot in the city.

Seventy one people died and hundreds injured when fans of the home side Masry stormed the pitch following a 3-1 over Ahly at the Port Said stadium.

Security forces have been accused of failing to intervene to stop the clashes.

Thousands of angry protesters have started a march on Thursday afternoon from several points in Cairo to the ministry of interior to protest police conduct.
