Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi praised Egyptian fans’ behaviour during the national team’s first game in the African Cup of Nations (2019 AFCON) on Friday evening.
“Proud of this respectful youth for presenting an honourable image for our country in front of the whole world,” El-Sisi posted on his Facebook page on Saturday evening.
The Egyptian President also posted images of fans cleaning and removing trash from the stands at Cairo International Stadium after the Pharaohs beat Zimbabwe 1-0.
The game was attended by 71,000 fans.
President El-Sisi attended the game, where he gave a short speech inaugurating the start of the prestigious African tournament.
2019 AFCON takes place in Egypt from 21 June to 19 July in various stadiums nationwide.
