Parliamentary speaker Saad El-Katatni announced that the Ministry of Interior has approved the demand from the People's Assembly to transport deposed former president Hosni Mubarak to the hospital of Tora Prison.
He also said in Monday's session that Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim pledged to ensure the transfer is carried out as soon as the hospital is ready to receive the 83-year-old, which should be in the near future, he said.
Mubarak has been detained since April facing charges of abusing his power as president to accumulate an illegal fortune, and for bearing responsibility for the killing of peaceful protesters during the January 25 uprising.
However, he has never been incarcerated in Tora Prison like many of his oligarchs, due to his deteriorating health condition that according to medical reports entail his stay at a highly equipped hospital.
Mubarak was admitted to the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital upon his arrest and was transferred to the well-equipped military medical centre on the Cairo-Ismailia desert road.
A day earlier, state news agency MENA reported that ex-regime figures currently remanded in Tora prison would be distributed among five different prisons.
In the wake of last week's Port Said football disaster, which saw 74 spectators killed, parliamentarians made the decision to separate the former regime figures to prevent them from scheming against the country to stir unrest, as widely suspected.
