President Sisi stresses depth of relationship between Egypt and Lebanon to Jumblatt

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said that Egypt is keen on the safety, security and stability of Lebanon, affirming his appreciation of the depth of the close relations between the two countries on the official and popular levels.

El-Sisi's remarks came during his meeting with the head of Lebanon's Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) Walid Jumblatt in Cairo on Thursday.

According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady, El-Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness to support Lebanese national interests and spare Lebanon the risks of conflicts in the region, in the framework of Egypt's consistent interest in Lebanon and its people.

The president also praised the constructive and essential role played by Jumblatt in maintaining stability and balance in Lebanon.

From his side, Jumblatt voiced Lebanon's keenness to strengthen the historical relations that link the two brotherly countries, which are based on solidarity and brotherhood.

Jumblatt also expressed his country's appreciation for the Egyptian effort in supporting Lebanon in all fields, as well as its role as a central pillar and a basic guarantor of stability in the Arab region as a whole.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the head of the General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel were also present at the meeting.

The presidential spokesperson said that enhancing the existing bilateral cooperation frameworks were discussed in the meeting, including the possibility of benefiting from the Egyptian expertise in a number of developmental areas.
