Dozens of residents of the Upper Egyptian city of Aswan torched a police car belonging to the local security directorate on Tuesday following rumours that a local man had been wrongfully killed by police.
A security source told Ahram Online that two men on a motorcycle attempted to run through a security checkpoint in the city's Kahroub district. According to the same source, one of the two men was killed – and the other injured – after the motorcycle struck a tree.
Nevertheless, many Aswan residents reportedly believe the man in question was intentionally killed by police.
Authorities have yet to launch an official investigation into the incident.
