Newly imposed fines see foreign nationals in Sudan who overstay their visas fines of pay $1 per day

Egypt has called on its nationals who are living in Sudan, or wishing to travel to the country, to abide by the valid dates of their visas after Sudanese authorities started to impose fines on violators.

The Egyptian foreign ministry said fines levied by Sudanese authorities on foreign residents who overstay their visas amount to 50 Sudanese pounds ($1) per day and are applied retroactively as of the visa expiry date.

In a statement late Tuesday, the ministry called on "all Egyptian citizens residing in Sudan or wishing to travel to Sudan to fully comply with the validity of [their] official visas upon arrival ... and to secure official residency and legalise their presence" in the country.

Violations may result in a delay to procedures for leaving Sudan, the statement added.
