Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) Victor Kisob praised Egypt's efforts in the domain of urban planning and the establishment of new urban cities like the New Administrative Capital and New Alamein.

He described Egypt's achievements in the urban planning field as a "success story" that should be taken as a regional model.

Kisob made the remarks during his meeting with Ambassador Soha El-Gendy, the head of the International Cooperation Administration at the Egyptian foreign ministry.

The UN official is leading a high-level UN delegation to Egypt.

The meeting, which also comprised representatives of the foreign ministries of Norway and Sweden, falls with the framework of the annual consultations that the UN programme holds with the donors, the foreign ministry stated on Monday.

Kisob congratulated Egypt on winning the four-year membership of the UN-Habitat (2019-2023) and described it as an achievement that crowned the country's efforts during the presidency of the African Union.

Officials in charge of the UN-Habitat programme, during the meeting, reviewed aspects of cooperation between the Egyptian government and the UN programme in the fields of urban planning and housing that aimed at achieving Egypt's vision for sustainable development in 2030.
