Egypt will begin to impose increased fees on passengers travelling on domestic and international flights later this week, according to the civil aviation ministry.

Earlier this year, the ministry increased some of the tariffs imposed on passengers departing on international flights by $5, to be unified at $25.

Previously, only tickets of international flights leaving from Cairo International Airport were subject to the $25 fees while charges on flights leaving from other airports across the country were set at $20.

The aviation ministry said in its February decision, which was published in the country's official gazette five months later, that the new tariffs would be imposed as of November 15.

Under the new decision, fees on passengers travelling on domestic flights will also increase to $5 from $4.

The fees have been in place since 2014. They are collected from travel firms, with the price usually added to passenger ticket prices.
