Egypt's Minister of Tourism Rania Al-Mashat has met with Jane Sun, CEO of Ctrip, a leading Chinese online travel agency, while participating in Bloomberg’s New Economy Forum in Beijing, China.
During their meeting, Al-Mashat and Jane Sun discussed the executive measures taken by the Chinese company to promote Egypt as a tourist destination in the Chinese market, and the mechanisms that will be implemented during the coming period.
According to the ministry, the company is carrying out a promotional campaign for Egypt on travel websites and on Chinese social networks and search engines like Baidu, Wechat, and Ctrip.com.
Ctrip CEO Jane Sun explained that the promotional campaign aims to introduce travellers to the various Egyptian tourist products and the high quality services available at the different tourist destinations in Egypt.
Al-Mashat explained that the ministry wants to diversify tourist markets that send tourists to Egypt, and that China is one of the most important and promising markets Egypt wants to attract.
Al-Mashat added that the ministry is also aiming to use technology and digital platforms to promote Egypt as a tourist destination.
She explained that the ministry partnered with Ctrip given the importance of the Chinese market, and the importance of using modern technology and digital platforms, especially since the Chinese market has a unique nature and that China has its own social networks.
Last September, the Ministry of Tourism announced it had made a number of deals with some international promotional and marketing companies like Beautiful Destination, CNN Global Network, Ctrip, Discovery, Expedia International Group and Isobar.
Ctrip, one of China’s biggest travel agencies, was founded in 1999.
During the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Al-Mashat also met with Mike Froman, the Vice Chairman and President for Strategic Growth for Mastercard Inc.
Al-Mashat and Forman discussed various aspects of cooperation between the tourism ministry and the company in the fields of data analysis, digital transformation and promoting Egyptian tourism.
