Egypt hails French counter-terrorism efforts in the region

Egypt's foreign ministry has expressed its deep condolences to the government and people of France over the death of 13 French soldiers who were killed in a helicopter accident during an operation in Mali on Tuesday.

"Egypt appreciates the military operation and the French efforts exerted to cleanse the African Sahel zone of terrorist spots in cooperation with the countries of the region," the statement read.

It also praised French support for regional efforts to assist the Community of Sahel-Saharan States to combat terrorism. 

The statement stressed the necessity of combining and intensifying international efforts to combat all forms of terrorism, without discrimination.
