Three people were killed and four others injured on Sunday when the western wall of an ancient church at the Monastery of Saint Fana of the Mallawi Diocese in Upper Egypt's Minya gonernorate, the Coptic Orthodox Church has announced.
Investigations are underway to unveil the reasons behind the tragic incident, the church statement said.
The church expressed deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs and prayed for the injured to have a speedy recovery.
The Ministry of Antiquities also expressed "deep sorrow over the incident and heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the injured."
