The channel said that it is in a cash crunch mainly caused by a lack of advertisements on its screens

Egyptian satellite TV channel TeN said on Wednesday that it is suspending its broadcast at the end of this month due to financial problems.

The privately-owned channel said in a statement on Facebook that the cash crunch is mainly caused by the lack of advertisements on its screens.

It said that the "difficult decision" was taken so that the channel can "fulfill its financial obligations towards its employees and its operational contracts, and in anticipation of any financial difficulties the channel may face in the future."

TeN was created in 2011 under the name "Tahrir" following the popular uprising that ousted longtime autocrat Hosny Mubarak, before its name was changed to TeN as part of a rebranding in early 2015.
