Head of Cairo Appeal Court states appeal judge behind decision to lift travel ban on US NGO workers, declines to divulge judge's name

The decision to lift the travel ban on American non-governmental organisation (NGO) and US-government funded workers was made by an appeal judge in the North Cairo Criminal Court.

According to Judge Abdel-Moez Ibrahim, head of the Cairo Appeal Court, the decision was made by an appeal judge whose name he declined to give. Ibrahim, however, went on to affirm that the decision was legal.

Egypt decided on Wednesday to lift a travel ban preventing seven Americans from leaving the country, in a move likely to defuse a standoff that has soured US-Egyptian relations.

Sixteen of the 43 people facing charges of receiving illegal foreign funding and working without a formal license are American.
