Egypt set to host COSP9 meeting on UN corruption convention in 2021

Egypt is set to host the ninth Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP9) in 2021, a statement by the group read.

Participating states at the eight conference, held in UAE's Abu Dhabi this week, agreed that Cairo will host the upcoming event

The Egyptian delegation included the chairman of the Administrative Control Authority Sherif Seif El-Din, the chairman of the Egyptian Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Combating Unit  Ahmed Khalil, Egypt’s Ambassador in Vienna Omar Amer, and representatives of law enforcement agencies in Egypt.

They presented Egypt's efforts in implementing resolutions and declarations by former conferences to achieve the convention's goals, and discussed and voted on draft resolutions presented by state members.

The conference is held every two years to review the implementation of the convention and to discuss how states can better tackle corruption.

This year’s event concluded by issuing the Abu Dhabi Declaration, which pinpoints 16 recommendations, including calling upon states parties, in accordance with the fundamental principles of their legal systems, to strengthen the national, regional and international coordination and cooperation among the bodies involved in the prevention of and fight against corruption, to afford one another, without delay, effective mutual legal assistance.
