President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree on Monday pardoning a number of prisoners on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the 25 January Revolution and Police Day.

Based on the presidential decree, a higher security committee led by the assistant interior minister for prisons affairs shall be formed to examine prisoners' cases and determine who is illegible for pardoning.

The decree was published in the official gazette.
