A consultative meeting of the technical and legal delegations from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in Khartoum concluded on Thursday.

The two-day meeting aimed at resuming talks on the rules of filling and operating the dam's reservoir and outlining a draft agreement on that issue.

The meeting was held in light of the outcome of the meeting of foreign and irrigation ministers of the three countries held in Washington on January 13 to 15.

That meeting resulted in a statement that determined some elements and key terms as regards the final agreement on the dam's operation system, as well as the measures to be followed during the times of drought, so as not to harm Egypt's water quotas.

The ministers had agreed that the final agreement would include a mechanism for coordination among the three countries to follow up on the implementation of the agreement, as well as a mechanism to settle any disputes.
