The Egyptian and Russian foreign ministers agreed in a phone call on Tuesday on continued cooperation to achieve a fair and comprehensive solution for the Palestinian cause, a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry read, in the wake of controversy over a new US peace plan.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a call from his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in which they discussed developments in the region, including in Palestine, Syria and Libya.
The two ministers agreed on the need for a comprehensive solution in accordance with international legitimacy accords, to ensure achieving peace and stability in the whole region, foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.
They also agreed on continued work towards boosting bilateral ties in various fields, and the importance of continued coordination and consultations on issues of bilateral interest.
In the past weeks, Egypt has intensified talks and consultations with international partners over a number of key crises in the region, including escalations in Libya and Syria, and concerns over the peace plan unveiled by US President Donald Trump last week.
