AUC turns 100, marking the event with Centennial Celebration Week

The American University in Cairo's (AUC) Centennial Celebration Week is taking place from Saturday to Wednesday, marking a century of leadership as Egypt’s global university turns 100.

The celebration’s activities kicked off with a Community Carnival on Saturday, followed by other activities throughout the week, including international dance, AUC Melodies, and a conference on the Future of Design. 

The Community Carnival will be home to 100 Years of AUC Fashion Evolution Runway Show, Street Performances, Student Union sponsored International Food Festival, Virtual Reality, Sci-Tech Hub, and others.

Centennial Nights will kick off on Monday with a night full of light shows and glimpses into the future, including “AI: Humanizing Technology” talk by Rana El-Kaliouby, PhD ’98, ’00, 3D Mapping at AUC Portal, and Future of Design: What’s Next Exhibition. 

Other events throughout the week include leading hit Noura Play, which will play at the Gerhart Theater at AUC New Cairo from 18 to 20 February, 7-9pm.

The university is also home to a film festival, dubbed Visions: The Cairo Egyptian Film Festival, with screenings of the award-winning films of the 2019 edition.

Several exhibitions are open during the celebration, including Creswell's Cairo Collection, which runs from 17 February to 12 March, Corner of a Dream: Art and Technology Exhibitions, from 15 February to 11 March, Glitch: Art and Technology Exhibitions, from 12 February to 11 March, Beit Um Amel: Art and Technology Exhibitions, from 12 February to 11 March 11 and Emergency Exit, from 15-20 February.
