The campaign manager of former Arab League secretary general and presidential hopeful, Amr Moussa, obtained the forms on Saturday to apply for the presidential seat.

Registration for candidates for Egypt's historic presidential race opened at 9am Saturday, 10 March.

Presidential hopefuls have until 8 April to apply for the elections, which are planned to take place on 23 and 24 May, 2012. Candidates can only run in the presidential race if they have the support of a political party represented in parliament, the signature of 30,000 citizens or the support of 30 members of parliament.

Moussa's campaign manager, Saeed Zaatar, says that they are planning to collect the 30,000 signatures, preferring to obtain support directly from the people for Moussa's campaign.

Amr Moussa was Arab League secretary general between 2001 and 2011. He was also Egypt's foreign minister under Hosni Mubarak between 1991 and 2001.
