The Cairo Metro Egyptian Company said on Thursday evening it has partially suspended the movement of trains on Cairo metro's first line due to bad weather conditions.

The company said on its official Facebook page that the trains' movement has been suspended from New Al-Merg station to the Martyrs station at Tahrir Square as a result of the unstable weather conditions but that trains operating between Helwan and the Martyrs stations were functioning normally.

Cairo's second and third metro lines are operating on schedule, the company added.

Earlier on Thursday, the traffic directorate of the interior ministry closed at least 10 desert highways in Upper Egypt due to bad weather, including the Qena-Luxor and Qena-Red Sea highways to avoid road accidents.

The cabinet's operation room set up to deal with emergencies requested that people stay home, except in cases of emergency, to help governorate workers move faster to dry up the streets.

The statement added that the room received several complains from different governorates, including Cairo and Giza, of cars obstructing vacuum trucks from reaching their destinations.
