Egypt allocates EGP 100 mln compensation for those affected by major storm

Egypt's minister of social solidarity announced on Sunday that the government had allocated EGP 100 million to compensate those affected by the thunderstorm and heavy rain that hit the country last weekend.

 
According to a statement issued by the minister, 7,750 families were affected badly by the weather, according to a joint estimation by the ministries of social solidarity, health, irrigation, agriculture, and local development, as well as provincial governors. 
 
"It has been decided to allocate EGP 100 million to compensate those affected nationwide, to cover their losses and re-construct their houses," said Social Solidarity Minister Nevin Al-Qabbaj.
 
According to official figures, at least 20 people were killed due to flooding and other accidents caused by the bad weather conditions on Thursday and Friday.
