Egypt's supreme council of universities has delayed second semester college exams over the coronavirus epidemic.

The council, which is headed by the Minister of Higher Education Khalid Abdel-Ghaffar, said in a statement on Saturday that the exams will not be held before 30 May.

Egypt has suspended all educational activities in schools and universities in an attempt to deter the spread of the coronavirus.

On Thursday, Education Minister Tarek Shawki announced the cancelling of end-of-year exams for students from third primary to second preparatory school. Students will instead prepare a research paper for every course and submit it online.

Egypt has been implementing increasingly strict measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country, which has infected at least 285 people, eight of whom have been killed by the virus.
