Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Niven Gamee issued on Monday a decree instructing Egyptian producers and importers of medical supplies to deliver all their products and stocks to Egypt’s Consortium Purchasing and Medical Supply Authority for the next three months.
The decree aims to meet the country’s needs for medical supplies during the COVID-19 outbreak, and mandates the delivery of protective suits, latex gloves, N95 masks, protective glasses, and face and surgical masks.
The decree also said that the order is not intended to supply the Armed Forces or police.
According the decree, the Consortium Purchasing Authority will be the only provider of medical supplies for all government and university hospitals during the current phase.
Gamee said that the ministry is willing to offer support for medical supply mills, in particular to ensure the speedy release of supplies from ports and customs points.
