An earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scalewas felt in several Egyptian cities on Sunday evening, Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIA) said in a statement.
According to the NRIA, the quake originated in Turkey at 600 km away from North Marsa Matrouh was felt at 7.43 PM in several Egyptian cities, but no casualties or losses were reported.
Several citizens reported online that they felt it in cities like Cairo, Ismailia and Matrouh. Currently “Earthquake” hashtag in Arabic is currently top trending in Egypt on Twitter as people used the popular social media network.
