The National Elections Authority (NEA) announced in Cairo on Saturday that the Senate elections will be held in Egypt on 11-12 August.

In a press conference, the NEA announced that Egyptian expats will vote on 9-10 August.

Candidates can register between 11 and 18 July, the authority said.

Election re-runs will be on 8-9 September while the final results will be announced on 16 September, the NEA said.

Concerning the coronavirus and the measures that will be taken to protect the public, the NEA stated that wearing a face mask is obligatory at polling stations.

The Senate will include 300 seats, one-third of which will be elected via the individual candidacy system, another third to be elected through the closed party list system, and a third to be named by the president.

The Senate elections will be followed by House elections.
