The military has deployed its own buses in several Cairo districts, in an attempt to break a 10-day strike by transport workers.

Egypt's transport workers are calling for better pay and working conditions as well as for the Public Transport Authority and the Ministry of Transport to be merged.

The demands were first voiced in February 2011, in the wake of the 18-day uprising. The workers have vowed to continue the strike until Sunday.
